Magnificent 7 -- Man Utd got serious and blew roma away!!
Last week United were unlucky to lose the first leg of the Champions League Quarter finals by 2-1. Scholes was sent off for some stupid challenges and United were seldom in control with a lack lustre display in the middle of the park.
Now, the second leg was an absolutely different story. United replaced the suspended Scholes with Fletcher and together with Carrick, they proved to undone the italians. roma came close to scoring first with totti's shot just wide. Then the rest is history.
1-0Michael Carrick opened the scoring with a somewad luck goal. He found some space just outside the box and his shot swerved past the poorly positioned roma keeper, Doni.
2-0Alan Smith, a surprise starter scored his first goal after more than a year out with multiple fractures. A beautiful move started with Carrick's precise pass to find Rooney who passed to Giggs and without looking flick the ball into Smith's path and Smith one-on-one with the keeper finshed calmly.
3-0Wayne Rooney, played on the left but constantly drifts ard causing trouble for roma. Smith's pass gave Giggs space and the welshman delivered a good cross for Rooney to slot home near the 6 yard box.
4-0Cristiano Ronaldo, was again superb. He picked up the ball, dribbled past several defenders and powers his shot pass doni on his near post
Second Half
5-0Cristiano Ronaldo, again poached a goal this time from close range. Giggs' cross missed Smith but Ronaldo was on hand to tap it in
6-0Michael Carrick, one of the best of the 7. Carrick picked up the ball just outside the box and blasted a shot into the top corner of the net.
7-1Patrice Evra, came on as a sub for O'Shea and he found space out the roma box before firing a somewad scuffed shot which beat doni on his near post.
Overall superb performance by United and one which will be remembered by United's Fans for a very very long time. Champions League trophy, here we come!!!!
